Overview
This WorkSafe approved course provides an opportunity for Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) and Deputy HSRs to revisit aspects of the HSR Initial OHS Training course and refresh their knowledge of the importance of OHS in the workplace.
Why complete this HSR Refresher OHS Training Course?
Under section 67 the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic.), all elected HSRs and Deputy HSRs after completing a HSR initial course of training have an entitlement (for each year they hold office) to attend a HSR refresher course and choose the course in consultation with their employer.

Course Details
Why are there 3 different types of HSR Refresher OHS Training Courses?
WAM Training offers 3 types WorkSafe-Approved HSR Refresher OHS Training Courses. Each course is designed to refresh the HSRs skills and knowledge pertaining to being a HSR, but with a particular focus on either:
- Plant;
- Work-Related Violence; or
- Work-Related Stress
It is up to the HSR to decide which course best suits their needs for that particular year. When choosing course dates, be sure to check what the focus for that course is.
How many participants will there be in this HSR Refresher OHS Training Course?
Whilst WorkSafe Victoria allows up to 20 participants per course, WAM Training has a maximum group size of 15 so as to allow plenty of time for groupwork, discussions and a comfortable Trainer-to-Participant ratio.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy Requirements

What is the HSR Refresher OHS Training Course outcome?
Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
Additional HSR Refresher OHS Training Course Information
- Under s67 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic.), Victorian Employers are legally obligated to allow their Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) and Deputy Health and Safety Representatives (DHSRs) to attend training (provided the course start date is at least 14 days in the future), and must pay the course fees and their HSRs’ regular wages whilst they attend their course
- Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) and Deputy Health and Safety Representatives (DHSRs) are entitled to choose their course in consultation with their employer
- This course is delivered over 1 day face-to-face and is classroom-based
- Participants should wear enclosed shoes
- For identification, participants should bring a driver’s licence or passport
- Participants are reminded that they must bring their HSR Initial OHS Training Course certificate
