What is Verification of Competency (VOC)?

Verification of Competency (VOC) is a method of assessment that assists employers verify confirm the competency of Employees who will be required to operate plant and equipment in their workplace.

Why are VOC’s required?

Whilst an Employee may have the authority to operate plant and equipment by possessing the required licence or proof of training, ongoing competence of plant and equipment operators is the responsibility of the employer under Australian law.  Further, many most major projects require Verification of Competency (VOC) to be completed before a person operates machinery on site.

What do VOC’s cost?

If requested at the time of making a booking into a full training course, WAM Training can issue a VOC card at no charge.  At all other times, VOC’s are charged as a sessional rate, and we will fit in as many VOC’s as possible.  In terms of what is achievable, that depends on the group size and range of VOC’s required. Here are some examples:

Half Day – $1600 (plus GST)

  • 2 Attendees VOC’d in four classes (I.e. WP, DG, LF and SL)
  • 3 Attendees VOC’d in three classes (i.e. WP, SL and DG)
  • 4 Attendees VOC’d in two classes (i.e. WP & DG)

Full Day – $2600 (plus GST)

  • 4 Attendees VOC’d in four classes (I.e. WP, DG, LF and SL)
  • 6 Attendees VOC’d in three classes (i.e. WP, SL and DG)
  • 8 Attendees VOC’d in two classes (i.e. WP & DG)
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Must have evidence of already holding the appropriate Licence or Proof of Training for the classes being VOC’d

Course Details

WAM Training has the expertise to perform VOC’s (Verification of Competency) in the following classes:

  • Over 11m Boom Lift Licence (WP)
  • Dogging Licence (DG)
  • Elevating Work Platforms (Scissor Lifts, Vertical Lifts and  Under 11m Boom Lifts)
  • Forklift Licence (LF)
  • Overhead Crane
  • Telehandler
  • Vehicle Loading Crane

Attendees must have adequate English language skills to safely complete tasks relating to the class being VOC’d, such as being able to:

  • Read and correctly interpret workplace procedures
  • Complete paperwork relevant to the task being undertaken
  • Read and interpret load charts and data plates where required
  • Speak English clearly in order to explain, describe and verify sometimes complex needs and issues

Once a VOC has been successfully completed, attendees will be issued with a VOC card.

  • Attendees should wear safety shoes (and hi-vis clothing if they can)
  • For identification, trainees should bring a driver’s licence or passport
  • Attendees must bring evidence of already holding the appropriate Licence or Proof of Training for the classes being VOC’d
  • All VOC’s involve theory (written) and practical assessment
