The OHS Regulations allow for a short exemption period provided the following applies:

  • The staff member is scheduled to undertake construction induction training within 28 days of commencing
  • The staff member has not worked in construction for the 2 years prior
  • The staff member receives direct supervision, directions, demonstrations and monitoring appropriate to the construction work
  • performed by the person for the 28 day period

We would have to perform an RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) assessment in order to assess your skills and knowledge against the unit of competency CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry. We would also need a range of evidence for each aspect of the unit. Any areas that aren’t able to be perfectly mapped would need to be gap-trained.

So, whilst WorkSafe might be correct on one hand, on the other hand, it is simply far easier and cheaper to attend the 6-hour course.
