Course Overview
This one day Telehandler Course is perfect for anyone who needs to be certified to operate telehandlers with a lifting capacity of 3 tonnes or less.
Telehandlers which can lift over 3 tonnes require a Non-Slewing Tehehandler High Risk Work Licence – this course does not result in the issuance of a High Risk Work Licence for Over 3 tonne telehandlers.
Remember, even when a licence isn’t required for a given machine type, employers must provide adequate levels of information, instruction, training and supervision so as to meet their legislative obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic.).

Telehandler Course structure
Throughout this course, our expert Trainers will guide you through both theoretical and practical training to help you build the knowledge and hands-on skills required for the workplace. You’ll also complete both theoretical and practical assessments to demonstrate your competence.
Language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills requirements
Trainees must be able to speak English clearly, understand and complete worksite documentation and explain and describe issues relating to working with telehandlers.
Our expert Trainers will guide and support you throughout the learning process. However, please note that the formal assessments are closed-book.
To give you an idea of the language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills required, here are five example questions similar in complexity to what you’ll encounter during the course:
- List four items that should be checked during a pre-start inspection of a telehandler
- You are required to move 38.4 tonnes of gravel using a bucket with a 2.4 tonne capacity. How many bucket loads are needed?
- What are two types of attachments that may be used on a telehandler, and what is each one used for?
- Explain why a load chart is required for each telehandler attachment
- List three reasons why it is important to clean debris from a telehandler before transporting it by road
If you’re not sure whether your Language, Literacy, Numeracy or Digital Literacy skills are suitable for this course, please contact WAM Training by calling 1800 143 343 so that we can provide you with a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Assessment to help determine your readiness.
