WAM Training’s private Scissor Lift and Vertical Lift Course is designed for teams who need to operate the following EWP types:
- SL – Scissor Lift
- VL – Vertical Lift
Boom-type elevating work platforms (boom lifts) are not covered in this course. If your team members need to be accredited to operate boom lifts, the following courses may be more suitable:
- Elevating Work Platforms Course (covers boomlifts with a capacity of under 11m, scissor lifts and vertical lifts)
- Boom Lift Licence Course (covers boom lifts with a capacity exceeding 11m)

Who can enrol into our Scissor Lift and Vertical Lift Course?
To be eligible to enrol into our Scissor Lift and Vertical Lift Course, your team member must:
- Be a minimum 18 years of age
- Have a valid USI (you can create one for free or look yours up at www.usi.gov.au)
- Not be fearful of heights
Experience working around mobile plant is preferred, but not essential.
It’s important that each attendee is able to speak English clearly and be able to understand and complete worksite documentation relevant to elevating work platform operation.

Scissor Lift and Vertical Lift Course structure
In this one day course, our expert Trainer will guide your team through a series of theoretical and practical training activities so that they have the confidence and competence to operate scissor lifts and vertical lifts in the workplace.
Language, literacy and numeracy requirements
Trainees need to be able to speak English clearly, understand and complete worksite documentation, and explain and describe issues relating to the operation of scissor lifts and vertical lifts.
Our expert Trainer will guide and support your team through the learning process, but it’s important to understand that the formal assessments are closed-book.

Frequently Asked Questions
This course is not a dedicated height safety course. To be compliant with Australian Standard AS1891.4 Industrial fall-arrest systems and devices – Selection, use and maintenance, each person performing harness-based work should also complete WAM Training’s Working at Heights Course.
The Scissor Lift and Vertical Lift Course cost is $2,600.00 (GST Exempt) and a maximum of 10 people may attend.
Submit an Onsite Course Enquiry to recieve a detailed quote, including travel and accommodation charges (which normally apply if your site is greater than 100km from Melbourne).
Upon successful completion of our Scissor Lift and Vertical Lift Course, Trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment from WAM Training, and a Yellow Card from the Elevating Work Platform Association which lists the EWP types they’ve been trained in. You can also request copies of your team’s certificates after they complete their training so that you don’t have to chase them up internally.
WAM Training’s Scissor Lift and Vertical Lift Course takes around 6 hours. We normally start at 7:45am, but please let us know if you’d prefer a different start time.
As soon as we receive your Attendance List and Attendee Email Addresses, we’ll send through our Scissor Lift and Vertical Lift Course Handbook which we recommend they study before commencing.
More often than not, when someone fails WAM Training’s Scissor Lift and Vertical Lift Course, it’s due to not paying attention. Our highly experienced Trainers have worked with hundreds of Trainees to train them to operate elevating work platforms safely. But at the end of the day, it’s up to your team to pay attention and participate during their Scissor Lift and Vertical Lift Course.
The Elevating Work Platform Association Yellow Card is valid for 5 years. Prior to the expiry, the EWPA will contact you to provide information about their online refresher options.
