Course Overview
This nationally recognised First Aid Course is designed to ensure your team members are ready to perform first aid in both the workplace and at home. Based on the Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines, and formerly referred to as ‘Level 2 First Aid’, our First Aid Course helps to meet compliance obligations as outlined in WorkSafe Victoria’s Compliance code: First aid in the workplace.
What Units of Competency are covered during the First Aid Course?
Our First Aid Course covers the following Unit of Competency:
- HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
- HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support
- HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Who can enrol into our First Aid Course?
WAM Training’s First Aid Course is suitable for anyone who is looking to equip themselves with the first aid skills and knowledge to be able to competently provide first aid to their workmates, family and friends if the situation arises.
To be eligible to enrol into our First Aid Course, you must:
- Be a minimum 18 years of age
- Have a valid USI (you can create one for free or look yours up at www.usi.gov.au)
It’s important that you’re able to speak English clearly and be able to understand first aid guidance. Additionally, many of our courses involve practical tasks which require the physical capability to operate machinery, climb ladders, handle tools, perform manual handling and move within confined, elevated or awkward spaces. What subjects are covered in our First Aid Course?
Our First Aid Course covers essential topics such as:
- Medical Conditions including heart attack, stroke, shock, asthma, anaphylaxis, choking, seizures and diabetes
- Trauma including bleeding, cuts, amputation, nose bleeds, ear injuries, eye injuries, bleeding head injuries, concussion, spinal injury, crush injuries, burns, electrical burns, fractures, sprains, strains and dislocations
- Environmental Conditions including hyperthermia, hypothermia, venomous bites and stings

First Aid Course structure
This course includes a written pre-course assignment, followed by a combination of theoretical and practical training delivered by our expert Trainers to help you build the knowledge and hands-on skills required for the workplace. You’ll also complete both theoretical and practical assessments to demonstrate your competence.
Our expert First Aid Trainers will use their own real-life stories as well as references from the Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines to train you in the many subjects covered by this course.
Language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills requirements
Trainees must be able to speak English clearly, understand and complete worksite documentation and explain and describe issues relating to first aid in the workplace.
Our expert Trainers will guide and support you throughout the learning process. However, please note that the formal assessments are closed-book.
To give you an idea of the language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills required, here are five example questions similar in complexity to what you’ll encounter during the course:
- What does the DRSABCD acronym stand for and in what order should each step be performed?
- List the signs and symptoms of a heart attack and explain what you should do if you suspect someone is having one
- Explain how to use a puffer and spacer to deliver asthma reliever medication following the 4x4x4 method
- Describe the correct method for managing a casualty who is choking, including when to use back blows and chest thrusts
- When should you stop CPR, and what should be included in your verbal handover to emergency services?

I did my Dogging course here and this is honestly one of the best facilities with the best trainers and course content I’ve ever experienced. I’ve done 3 high risk licenses all at different places and WAM has set the standards very high. I will be doing all my courses with them in future. This is a proper course. No doing the assessment copying answers from your book. In saying that the way Lindsay explains everything and gives you tips on how to operate a forklift especially for me the first time on a forklift you have nothing to fear. Doing the pracs & test with Gary: he puts you at ease and explains everything well so you are not under pressure while doing them.

I have just completed my forklift license course and I am so happy with the training I received. My trainer Steve was brilliant, he was thorough and took the time to ensure all of us passed our assessment. I did the electrical spotters course. Staff were very friendly, awesome place. They even have a thing where you can order lunch from a QR code and get it delivered to your table. My assessor was great. Would recommend it to anyone looking at booking some training.

Very thorough, easy to understand. Lindsay made it quite an enjoyable experience.Next…Now i’ve just completed my Working Safely At Heights course with the trainer Robbie.What an absolute gun. Explains everything so well, thorough and answered all of my many questions. He even stayed back and gave me the time for other queries I had. Very knowledgeable, very professional, easy to understand and very approachable.

I had undergone the Confined space training and it was a very good experience. There is definitely something new to learn with WAM training and the trainers are very much focussed into making us trainees fully aware of the subject. I would highly recommend WAM training to anyone interested. Definitely coming back.

I got my fork lift licence through wam training. The fella running the class Lindsey is up there with some of the funniest people I have met. His course coverage was in depth and thorough. He is straight to the point and informative. It's worth getting your licence just to here the blokes banter. If this guy wasn't teaching people how to drive forks he could probably do stand up. Thanks and take care big fella.

Best training Centre. Recently did my first aid course here. Very knowledgeable instructor, brand new set up. Staff are friendly and ample car parking available. Training facility is modern, have a small Cafe for snacks and vending machine.

Forklift training course was extremely informative and well presented. Instructor Lindsay was able to deliver all the information, both practical and theory, in a way that was easy to understand. Left feeling completely competent and would come back again!

Staff from entry to your exits, they treat people with respect, free fruits basket to grab, men and women alike, were professionals and polite. The trainers were clear and helpful, tries to make course less boring (though the materials were still boring, but hey, it's in our DNA). Brings in lunch orders by staff, seen female students doing the courses which was cool and not one-sided. All in all, I got two tickets from them and the staffs were not simply there for a paycheck. For the employers, your workers, if they have ears and half of a brain of a 10 year old with a calculator, they can pass.

I paid for and completed my level II first aid course basic life support and CPR for the incredible price of $97.50 and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. Great value great customer satisfaction and I had a brilliant instructor named Stone. He was easy going patient and his knowledge & professionalism were outstanding. I would highly recommend WAM training to anyone.

I have just completed the forklift licence at WAM with Lindsay as our trainer. He was hilarious, keeping the course fun and enjoyable throughout so it wasn’t boring, while teaching and explaining the course content well which made it easy to pass all 3 assessments. Would definitely recommend WAM for all your training needs.

The WAM training facility is a new facility with large, clean training rooms and good facilities.The instructor for the First Aid Course (Paul) was extremely knowledgeable and happy to elaborate on topics if the need arose.Very happy with the course and would definitely recommend.

Excellent training facility with great staff and equipment. The classrooms and site in general is modern. The training was excellent as was the practice on the forklift. Location is good as well. Lindsay from WAM is very professional and a good teacher and would definitely recommend getting your forklift licence with him. Good for large companies and individuals

How often should I refresh my First Aid Certification?
The Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines recommend that CPR is refreshed annually and First Aid is generally considered to be valid for 3 years.
Here’s a good example of how to maintain first aid currency:
- 2024: First Aid Course
- 2025: CPR Course
- 2026: CPR Course
- 2027: First Aid Course
- 2028: CPR Course
- 2029: CPR Course

What is the cost of WAM Training's First Aid Course?
Our First Aid Course fee is $150 (GST Exempt) per person.
What type of certification is issued after completing a First Aid Course?
Upon successful completion of our First Aid Course, Trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment validating their skills and knowledge.
How long is the First Aid Course?
WAM Training’s First Aid Course takes around 8 hours, from 7:45am to 4:00pm. As soon as you make your booking, you’ll receive our First Aid Course Handbook which we recommend you study before attending, as well as mandatory homework which must be completed prior to attending.
Does anyone ever fail the First Aid Course?
More often than not, when someone fails WAM Training’s First Aid Course, it’s due to not paying attention. Our highly experienced Trainers have worked with hundreds of Trainees to increase their first aid skills. But at the end of the day, it’s up to you to pay attention and participate during your First Aid Course.
What happens if I don't do my First Aid Course homework?
Unfortunately, Trainees who don’t compelte their First Aid Course homework won’t be able to attend the course, and their course fees will be forfeited.
