Course Overview
WAM Training’s EWP (Elevating Work Platforms) Course is designed for individuals who need to operate the following EWP types:
- BL – Under 11m Self-Propelled Boom Lift
- SL – Scissor Lift
- VL – Vertical Lift
Boom-type elevating work platforms (boom lifts) with a capacity exceeding 11m require a High Risk Work Licence – Class WP. This course does not result in the issuance of a High Risk Work Licence.
Remember, even when a licence isn’t required for a given machine type, employers must provide adequate levels of information, instruction, training and supervision so as to meet their legislative obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic.). This course results in the issuance of a Yellow Card from the Elevating Work Platform Association as well as a Statement of Attainment from WAM Training.

Who can enrol into our EWP (Elevating Working Platforms) Course?
To be eligible to enrol into our EWP (Elevating Working Platforms) Course, you must:
- Be a minimum 18 years of age
- Have a valid USI (you can create one for free or look yours up at www.usi.gov.au)
- Not be fearful of heights
Experience working around mobile plant is preferred, but not essential.
It’s important that you’re able to speak English clearly and be able to understand and complete worksite documentation relevant to elevating work platform operation.

EWP (Elevating Working Platforms) Course structure
In this one day course, our expert trainers will guide you through a series of theoretical and practical training activities so that you have the confidence and competence to operate boom lifts (under 11m), scissor lifts and vertical lifts in the workplace.
Language, literacy and numeracy requirements
Trainees need to be able to speak English clearly, understand and complete worksite documentation, and explain and describe issues relating to the operation of boom lifts, scissor lifts and vertical lifts.
Our expert Trainers will guide and support you through the learning process, but it’s important to understand that the formal assessments are closed-book.

All those info what you need for a course.Good house keeping at place. This is a proper course. No doing the assessment copying answers from your book. In saying that the way Lindsay explains everything and gives you tips on how to operate a forklift especially for me the first time on a forklift you have nothing to fear. Doing the pracs & test with Gary: he puts you at ease and explains everything well so you are not under pressure while doing them.

I have just completed my forklift license course and I am so happy with the training I received. My trainer Steve was brilliant, he was thorough and took the time to ensure all of us passed our assessment. Even when WorkSafe showed up unannounced to do their inspections, they walked out looking very pleased indeed! An exemplary training facility with high standards regarding health and safety. I did the electrical spotters course. Staff were very friendly, awesome place. They even have a thing where you can order lunch from a QR code and get it delivered to your table. My assessor was great. Would recommend it to anyone looking at booking some training.

I got my fork lift licence through wam training. The fella running the class Lindsey is up there with some of the funniest people I have met. His course coverage was in depth and thorough. He is straight to the point and informative. It's worth getting your licence just to here the blokes banter. If this guy wasn't teaching people how to drive forks he could probably do stand up. Staff from entry to your exits, they treat people with respect, free fruits basket to grab, men and women alike, were professionals and polite. The trainers were clear and helpful, tries to make course less boring (though the materials were still boring, but hey, it's in our DNA). Brings in lunch orders by staff, seen female students doing the courses which was cool and not one-sided. All in all, I got two tickets from them and the staffs were not simply there for a paycheck. For the employers, your workers, if they have ears and half of a brain of a 10 year old with a calculator, they can pass.

I paid for and completed my level II first aid course basic life support and CPR for the incredible price of $97.50 and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. Great value great customer satisfaction and I had a brilliant instructor named Stone. He was easy going patient and his knowledge & professionalism were outstanding. Is height safety training included in the EWP (Elevating Working Platforms) Course?
Whilst we will train you on how to select and inspect a harness prior to operating boom-type elevating work platforms, this course is not a dedicated height safety course. To be compliant with Australian Standard AS1891.4 Industrial fall-arrest systems and devices – Selection, use and maintenance, each person performing harness-based work should also complete WAM Training’s Working at Heights Course.
What is the cost of WAM Training's EWP (Elevating Working Platforms) Course?
Our EWP (Elevating Working Platforms) Course fee is $350 (GST Exempt) per person.
What type of certification is issued after completing a EWP (Elevating Working Platforms) Course?
Upon successful completion of our EWP (Elevating Working Platforms) Course, Trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment from WAM Training, and a Yellow Card from the Elevating Work Platform Association which lists the EWP types they’ve been trained in.
How long is the EWP (Elevating Working Platforms) Course?
WAM Training’s EWP (Elevating Working Platforms) Course takes one day, from 7:45am to 4:00pm. As soon as you make your booking, you’ll receive our EWP (Elevating Working Platforms) Course Handbook which we recommend you study before attending.
Does anyone ever fail the EWP (Elevating Working Platforms) Course?
More often than not, when someone fails WAM Training’s EWP (Elevating Working Platforms) Course, it’s due to not paying attention. Our highly experienced Trainers have worked with hundreds of Trainees to help them become competent EWP operators. But at the end of the day, it’s up to you to pay attention and participate during your EWP (Elevating Working Platforms) Course.
How long is the EWPA Yellow Card valid for?
The Elevating Work Platform Association Yellow Card is valid for 5 years. Prior to the expiry, the EWPA will contact you to provide information about their online refresher options.
