Course Overview
Australian Standard AS2865 Confined spaces states that Persons shall be reassessed at appropriate intervals to ensure their ongoing competency to perform activities relevant to their entry and work associated with confined spaces.
WAM Training’s Confined Space Refresher Course is the perfect way for employers to demonstrate that they are providing adequate levels of information, instruction and training so as to meet their legislative obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic.).
What subjects are covered during the Confined Space Refresher Course?
Our Confined Space Refresher Course covers the following subjects:
- Entering and working in confined spaces
- Use of gas detectors to monitor the atmosphere
- Working under issued permits
- Breathing apparatus use, for those previously trained
Please note that your Statement of Achievement will only list the subjects in which you have evidence of holding nationally accredited training (I.e. listed on a Statement of Attainment).
Who can enrol into our Confined Space Refresher Course?
To be eligible to enrol into our Confined Space Refresher Course, you must:
- Be a minimum 18 years of age
- Be able to provide a Statement of Attainment showing that you’ve previously completed nationally accredited Confined Space Entry training
- If refreshing Breathing Apparatus usage, you must be clean shaven so as to achieve a tight facial seal
It’s important that you’re able to speak English clearly and be able to understand and complete worksite documentation relevant to confined spaces. Additionally, many of our courses involve practical tasks which require the physical capability to operate machinery, climb ladders, handle tools, perform manual handling and move within confined, elevated or awkward spaces. Course Details
Confined Space Refresher Course
Structured to reinforce your existing confined space skills and knowledge, WAM Training’s Confined Space Refresher Course is a blend of theory, group work and practical training delivered over one day.
Language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills requirements
Trainees must be able to speak English clearly, understand and complete worksite documentation and explain and describe issues relating to confined space entry.
Our expert Trainers will guide and support you throughout the learning process. However, please note that the formal assessments are closed-book.
To give you an idea of the language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills required, here are five example questions similar in complexity to what you’ll encounter during the course:
- List four hazards that may be present during confined space work, excluding atmospheric hazards
- Describe the purpose of a Confined Space Permit and explain why it is required before entering a confined space
- Explain two methods for maintaining communication between entrants and the stand-by person during confined space work
- What is the maximum safe gas concentration for Carbon Monoxide before a gas detector must alarm?
- What action should you take if the actual site conditions differ from what is listed in the Risk Assessment or Entry Permit?

I did my Dogging course here and this is honestly one of the best facilities with the best trainers and course content I’ve ever experienced. I’ve done 3 high risk licenses all at different places and WAM has set the standards very high. I will be doing all my courses with them in future. This is a proper course. No doing the assessment copying answers from your book. In saying that the way Lindsay explains everything and gives you tips on how to operate a forklift especially for me the first time on a forklift you have nothing to fear. Doing the pracs & test with Gary: he puts you at ease and explains everything well so you are not under pressure while doing them.

I have just completed my forklift license course and I am so happy with the training I received. My trainer Steve was brilliant, he was thorough and took the time to ensure all of us passed our assessment. Even when WorkSafe showed up unannounced to do their inspections, they walked out looking very pleased indeed! An exemplary training facility with high standards regarding health and safety. I did the electrical spotters course. Staff were very friendly, awesome place. They even have a thing where you can order lunch from a QR code and get it delivered to your table. My assessor was great. Would recommend it to anyone looking at booking some training.

I got my fork lift licence through wam training. The fella running the class Lindsey is up there with some of the funniest people I have met. His course coverage was in depth and thorough. He is straight to the point and informative. It's worth getting your licence just to here the blokes banter. If this guy wasn't teaching people how to drive forks he could probably do stand up. Staff from entry to your exits, they treat people with respect, free fruits basket to grab, men and women alike, were professionals and polite. The trainers were clear and helpful, tries to make course less boring (though the materials were still boring, but hey, it's in our DNA). Brings in lunch orders by staff, seen female students doing the courses which was cool and not one-sided. All in all, I got two tickets from them and the staffs were not simply there for a paycheck. For the employers, your workers, if they have ears and half of a brain of a 10 year old with a calculator, they can pass.

I paid for and completed my level II first aid course basic life support and CPR for the incredible price of $97.50 and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. Great value great customer satisfaction and I had a brilliant instructor named Stone. He was easy going patient and his knowledge & professionalism were outstanding. He was hilarious, keeping the course fun and enjoyable throughout so it wasn’t boring, while teaching and explaining the course content well which made it easy to pass all 3 assessments. The WAM training facility is a new facility with large, clean training rooms and good facilities.The instructor for the First Aid Course (Paul) was extremely knowledgeable and happy to elaborate on topics if the need arose.Very happy with the course and would definitely recommend.

Excellent training facility with great staff and equipment. The classrooms and site in general is modern. The training was excellent as was the practice on the forklift. Location is good as well. Lindsay from WAM is very professional and a good teacher and would definitely recommend getting your forklift licence with him. Good for large companies and individuals

Best training Centre. Recently did my first aid course here. Very knowledgeable instructor, brand new set up. Staff are friendly and ample car parking available. Training facility is modern, have a small Cafe for snacks and vending machine. Glad that I attended the course under the guidance of David. Happy to recommend it to others as well.

What's the difference between each of the Confined Space Courses?
WAM Training offers four courses relevant to confined space entry, so that you can choose the right course to suit your workplace:
- Basic Confined Space Entry Course – Covering the basics of confined space entry and meeting the requirements for individuals needing to work in confined spaces, this course is condensed into one day because the group size is limited to 6.
- Advanced Confined Space Entry Course – This course delves deeper into each of the confined space subjects and the Units of Competency issued to successful applicants meet the requirements of many Water Boards.
- Confined Space Refresher Course – This course is for individuals who have already completed nationally recognised confined space entry in the past, and are looking to refresh their skills to maintain training compliance with Australian Standard AS2865 Confined spaces.
- Breathing Apparatus Course – This course is dedicated entirely to training how to select, inspect and use breathing apparatus in a range of situations, including confined spaces.

How often does Confined Space Refresher Training need to be done?
Most businesses that work with WAM Training have their staff recomplete their Breathing Apparatus Course every 1-2 years.
If using breathing apparaus in confined spaces, it is important to know that Australian Standard AS2865 Confined spaces states that Persons shall be reassessed at appropriate intervals to ensure their ongoing competency to perform activities relevant to their entry and work associated with confined spaces.
Essentially, that means that retraining should be something which is planned for at an interval which takes into account the risk associated with the tasks being undertaken.
Ultimately, it is up to the employer to set a policy on how often they will retrain their staff in confined space entry.

What type of certification is issued after completing a Confined Space Refresher Course?
Upon successful completion of our Confined Space Refresher Course, Trainees will be issued with a Statement of Achievement listing the subjects in which they’ve been refreshed. Pairing this with a Statement of Attainment from the Trainees’ original confined space course is the perfect way to prove currency of their skills and knowledge.
How long is the Confined Space Refresher Course?
WAM Training’s Confined Space Refresher Course takes one day, from 7:45am to 2:00pm. As soon as you make your booking, you’ll receive our Confined Space Refresher Course Handbook which we recommend you study before attending.

More often than not, when someone fails WAM Training’s Confined Space Refresher Course, it’s due to not paying attention.
