WAM Training’s Basic Confined Space Entry Course covers the basics of confined space entry and ensures that you’re meeting the training requirements for individuals needing to enter and work in confined spaces as outlined in Australian Standard AS2865 Confined spaces. This course is condensed into one day because the maximum group size is limited to 6.

Who can enrol into our Basic Confined Space Entry Course?
To be eligible to enrol into our Basic Confined Space Entry Course, you must:
- Be a minimum 18 years of age
- Have a valid USI (you can create one for free or look yours up at www.usi.gov.au)
- Weigh no more than 120kg (this is the limit of our fall arrest systems)
- Not be fearful of heights
Experience working around confined spaces is preferred, but not essential.
It’s important that you’re able to speak English clearly and be able to understand and complete worksite documentation relevant to confined space entry. Additionally, many of our courses involve practical tasks which require the physical capability to operate machinery, climb ladders, handle tools, perform manual handling and move within confined, elevated or awkward spaces. Basic Confined Space Entry Course structure
Throughout this course, our expert Trainers will guide you through both theoretical and practical training to help you build the knowledge and hands-on skills required for the workplace. You’ll also complete both theoretical and practical assessments to demonstrate your competence.
Language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills requirements
Trainees must be able to speak English clearly, understand and complete worksite documentation and explain and describe issues relating to confined space entry.
Our expert Trainers will guide and support you throughout the learning process. However, please note that formal assessments are closed-book.
To give you an idea of the language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills required, here are five example questions similar in complexity to what you’ll encounter during the course:
- List four physical hazards that may be encountered when working in a confined space (excluding atmospheric hazards)
- Name two types of permits used in confined space work and briefly explain their purpose
- You check the Risk Assessment and notice gas testing requirements are missing. What should you do?
- Identify two documents that will help you determine which PPE is required for the job
- Explain why it is important to conduct continuous atmospheric testing while working in a confined space

I did my Dogging course here and this is honestly one of the best facilities with the best trainers and course content I’ve ever experienced. I’ve done 3 high risk licenses all at different places and WAM has set the standards very high. I will be doing all my courses with them in future. Hey, I was at wam training around couple weeks ago and I saw WAM Advertising at a Melbourne STORM game and that's what made me book the course with WAM training, they were amazing and straight forward and I’ve recommended few people to go with WAM training, the staff were lovely and they were patient and understanding, if I could start again I would through WAM best experience ever and I got my forklift licence through them and price was worth it 🤩 couldn’t done it without WAM TRAINING, thank you all for amazing experience and thank you to the staffs and Lindsay were amazing teacher I ever had as I’m profoundly deaf and he took his time to explain and face to face with me, thank you once again for the most amazing journey (2 day course was straight forward)Kind regardsRyan Jaeger

Done HSR course. Absolutely fabulous experience. STEVE the Instuctor has provided all information, presented all facts, scenario based experience and roll play. All those info what you need for a course.Good house keeping at place. Trainee were provided tea, coffee and food as well.My course has provided last day lunch, too.I will definitely recommend this place to others. This is a proper course. No doing the assessment copying answers from your book. In saying that the way Lindsay explains everything and gives you tips on how to operate a forklift especially for me the first time on a forklift you have nothing to fear. Doing the pracs & test with Gary: he puts you at ease and explains everything well so you are not under pressure while doing them.

Stone would have to be the best Trainer I have come across, it was fun, interactive and not death by power point. I have just completed my forklift license course and I am so happy with the training I received. My trainer Steve was brilliant, he was thorough and took the time to ensure all of us passed our assessment. Even when WorkSafe showed up unannounced to do their inspections, they walked out looking very pleased indeed! An exemplary training facility with high standards regarding health and safety. Friendly reception, plentiful parking, modern machinery and equipment. Will absolutely be visiting again for future courses and will be recommending to all. I did the electrical spotters course. Staff were very friendly, awesome place. They even have a thing where you can order lunch from a QR code and get it delivered to your table. My assessor was great. Would recommend it to anyone looking at booking some training.

I had undergone the Confined space training and it was a very good experience. I got my fork lift licence through wam training. The fella running the class Lindsey is up there with some of the funniest people I have met. His course coverage was in depth and thorough. He is straight to the point and informative. It's worth getting your licence just to here the blokes banter. If this guy wasn't teaching people how to drive forks he could probably do stand up. Staff from entry to your exits, they treat people with respect, free fruits basket to grab, men and women alike, were professionals and polite. The trainers were clear and helpful, tries to make course less boring (though the materials were still boring, but hey, it's in our DNA). Brings in lunch orders by staff, seen female students doing the courses which was cool and not one-sided. All in all, I got two tickets from them and the staffs were not simply there for a paycheck. For the employers, your workers, if they have ears and half of a brain of a 10 year old with a calculator, they can pass.

I paid for and completed my level II first aid course basic life support and CPR for the incredible price of $97.50 and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. Great value great customer satisfaction and I had a brilliant instructor named Stone. He was easy going patient and his knowledge & professionalism were outstanding. What's the difference between each of the Confined Space Courses?
WAM Training offers four courses relevant to confined space entry, so that you can choose the right course to suit your workplace:
- Basic Confined Space Entry Course – Covering the basics of confined space entry and meeting the requirements for individuals needing to work in confined spaces, this course is condensed into one day because the group size is limited to 6.
- Advanced Confined Space Entry Course – This course delves deeper into each of the confined space subjects and the Units of Competency issued to successful applicants meet the requirements of many Water Boards.
- Confined Space Refresher Course – This course is for individuals who have already completed nationally recognised confined space entry in the past, and are looking to refresh their skills to maintain training compliance with Australian Standard AS2865 Confined spaces.
- Breathing Apparatus Course – This course is dedicated entirely to training how to select, inspect and use breathing apparatus in a range of situations, including confined spaces.

How often does Confined Space Refresher Training need to be done?
Most businesses that work with WAM Training have their staff undertake a Confined Space Refresher Course every 2 years.
Australian Standard AS2865 Confined spaces states that Persons shall be reassessed at appropriate intervals to ensure their ongoing competency to perform activities relevant to their entry and work associated with confined spaces.
Essentially, that means that retraining should be something which is planned for at an interval which takes into account the risk associated with the tasks being undertaken.
Ultimately, it is up to the employer to set a policy on how often they will retrain their staff in confined space entry.
What is the cost of WAM Training's Basic Confined Space Entry Course?
Our Basic Confined Space Entry Course fee is $400 (GST Exempt) per person.
What type of certification is issued after completing a Basic Confined Space Entry Course?
Upon successful completion of our Basic Confined Space Entry Course, Trainees will be issued with a Proof of Training Card as well as a Statement of Attainment validating their skills and knowledge.
How long is the Basic Confined Space Entry Course?
WAM Training’s Basic Confined Space Entry Course takes one day, from 7:45am to 4:00pm. As soon as you make your booking, you’ll receive our Basic Confined Space Entry Course Handbook which we recommend you study before attending.
Does anyone ever fail the Basic Confined Space Entry Course?
More often than not, when someone fails WAM Training’s Basic Confined Space Entry Course, it’s due to not paying attention. Our highly experienced Trainers have worked with hundreds, if not thousands of Trainees to help them become competent confined space workers. But at the end of the day, it’s up to you to pay attention and participate during your Basic Confined Space Entry Course.
