Course Overview
WAM Training’s Advanced Confined Space Entry Course delves deep into each confined space subjects, including confined space entry, gas testing atmospheres and working under issued permits. This course is conducted over two face-to-face days and complies with the training requirements as outlined in Australian Standard AS2865 Confined spaces.
It is also worth noting that many Water Boards require the Units of Competency covered by this course.
What Units of Competency is covered during the Advanced Confined Space Entry Course?
Our Advanced Confined Space Entry Course covers the following Units of Competency:
- RIIWHS202E Enter and work in confined spaces
- MSMPER205 Enter confined space
- MSMPER200 Work in accordance with an issued permit
- MSMWHS217 Gas test atmospheres
Who can enrol into our Advanced Confined Space Entry Course?
To be eligible to enrol into our Advanced Confined Space Entry Course, you must:
- Be a minimum 18 years of age
- Have a valid USI (you can create one for free or look yours up at www.usi.gov.au)
- Weigh no more than 120kg (this is the limit of our fall arrest systems)
- Not be fearful of heights
Experience working around confined spaces is preferred, but not essential.
It’s important that you’re able to speak English clearly and be able to understand and complete worksite documentation relevant to confined space entry.

Advanced Confined Space Entry Course structure
Over the course of two full days, our industry-recognised Trainers will share their skills and knowledge through a blend of classroom based theory presentation, discussions and group work before heading out to our state of the art confined space practical training environment.
Language, literacy and numeracy requirements
Trainees need to be able to speak English clearly, understand and complete worksite documentation, and explain and describe issues relating to confined space entry.
Our expert Trainers will guide and support you through the learning process, but it’s important to understand that the formal assessments are closed-book.

WAM Training offers four courses relevant to confined space entry, so that you can choose the right course to suit your workplace:
- Basic Confined Space Entry Course – Covering the basics of confined space entry and meeting the requirements for individuals needing to work in confined spaces, this course is condensed into one day because the group size is limited to 6.
- Advanced Confined Space Entry Course – This course delves deeper into each of the confined space subjects and the Units of Competency issued to successful applicants meet the requirements of many Water Boards.
- Confined Space Refresher Course – This course is for individuals who have already completed nationally recognised confined space entry in the past, and are looking to refresh their skills to maintain training compliance with Australian Standard AS2865 Confined spaces.
- Breathing Apparatus Course – This course is dedicated entirely to training how to select, inspect and use breathing apparatus in a range of situations, including confined spaces.

Most businesses that work with WAM Training have their staff recomplete their Breathing Apparatus Course every 1-2 years.
If using breathing apparaus in confined spaces, it is important to know that Australian Standard AS2865 Confined spaces states that Persons shall be reassessed at appropriate intervals to ensure their ongoing competency to perform activities relevant to their entry and work associated with confined spaces.
Ultimately, it is up to the employer to set a policy on how often they will retrain their staff in confined space entry.
Our Advanced Confined Space Entry Course fee is $530 (GST Exempt) per person.
Upon successful completion of our Advanced Confined Space Entry Course, Trainees will be issued with a Proof of Training Card as well as a Statement of Attainment validating their skills and knowledge.
WAM Training’s Advanced Confined Space Entry Course takes one day, from 7:45am to 4:00pm. As soon as you make your booking, you’ll receive our Advanced Confined Space Entry Course Handbook which we recommend you study before attending.
