Training:
Before the first day of your Boom Lift Licence Course, you’ll need to complete our Pre-Course Worksheet (which will be emailed to you upon booking). The first day of the course covers training in both theoretical and practical components of safe boom lift operation. Provided you go well during Day 1, you’ll be ready for formal assessments on Day 2.
Formal Assessment:
WorkSafe Victoria requires us to use closed-book formal assessments across three areas:
- Knowledge (Theory Questions)
- Assignment (Maths Questions)
- Performance (Practical)
All 3 Formal Assessments need to be passed in order for you to apply for a High Risk Work Licence – Class WP.
Key benefits of our Boom Lift Licence Course
Our Boom Lift Licence Course offers numerous benefits, including improved safety practices, enhanced operational efficiency, and compliance with industry regulations. Upon successful completion, Trainees are awarded a WorkSafe Notice of Assessment, allowing them to apply for a Boom Lift High-Risk Work Licence via the myWorkSafe Portal, increasing employability and job prospects.
Language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills requirements
Trainees must be able to speak English clearly, understand and complete worksite documentation, calculate weights and explain and describe complex needs and issues relating to boom lift operation.
Our expert Trainers will guide and support you throughout the learning process. However, please note that the formal assessments are all closed-book.
To give you an idea of the language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills required, here are five example questions similar in complexity to what you’ll encounter during the course:
- Explain the difference between a hazard and a risk when operating a boom lift
- List four sources of safety information that could assist you in performing boom lift work
- What are three effects that strong winds could have on an elevated work platform?
- You are required to set up a boom lift near overhead power lines. What are the minimum safe distances and what steps must you take if working closer?
- Identify three places you can find the rated capacity of a boom lift, and list three things included in that rated capacity
If you’re not sure whether your Language, Literacy, Numeracy or Digital Literacy skills are suitable for this course, please contact WAM Training by calling 1800 143 343 so that we can provide you with a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Assessment to help determine your readiness.
