Dogging Training is Necessary for Successful Crane Operation
Construction sites require trained dogmen any time there will be height work. Setting up slings and ropes to carry both material and workers is the responsibility of a trained dogman. Dogging training is available at many locations and it only takes about three days. There is a practical portion and a theoretical portion to the dogging training class, so licenced dogmen are fully capable of calculating safe weight loads for the slings and ropes they set up. There are no prerequisites for the class beyond a basic level of physical fitness. The applicant must be able to perform manual tasks and they must be over eighteen years of age. Providing they meet those standards they are eligible for dogging training. Dogging training comes in handy in many situations besides large construction projects.
Painters often need to set up slings and other equipment to do multi-story exterior painting. Any job that requires a worker to be at heights for long periods of time could benefit from dogging training. Dogging training does offer more than just rigging set up. Licenced dogmen are also able to assist crane operators. They are trained in all of the hand signals and whistles that are used to communicate to the operators during heavy machinery operation. This is necessary, because the crane operator will often be moving loads that are outside their line of vision. Dogging training teaches workers how to properly guide the load movement. Any time a job requires a crane, a dogman should be onsite to reduce the chances of an accident or injury.
